Microsoft Internship Experience
This year I have had the incredible opportunity to intern at Microsoft India Development Center(IDC) Bangalore. I interned as a Software Engineer for the 2018 summer. The period of internship was for 8 weeks. It was an off-campus internship.
The first round was in CoCubes platform. There were three questions. Two related to Algorithms and 1 was from Data Structures (Trees ). Since it was Off-Campus, there were only two candidates including me. There were two rounds of interview after the first qualifying round. After which I was informed by the HR that I was selected.
I was posted in the Bangalore office. For the first six weeks, I worked in an incubator WeWork Galaxy. The workspace was spacious and beautiful. And later the office was shifted to Prestige Ferns Galaxy, Bellandur.
We had an intern orientation day on the first day. They spoke about the process of workflow. Every intern was assigned a manager whom we had to report to and a mentor.Interestingly, every intern was assigned a buddy. Buddy is someone who is only a few years older than us and we could ask almost any random question to them. It can be about their experience as SWE or about the work culture and so on.
Though I won’t be able to talk about the specifics of my work, I would say that what I was given to do as a project was really interesting and I was excited about it. It was something that my team was looking forward to, not just my mentor and manager. The work given to my co-interns were really good too.
The team that I was in was very welcoming. I could ask questions to almost anyone. Once when I was stuck with a concept, I remember asking a lot from the team to explain it. They used to draw flowcharts and make sure that I completely understood. Honestly, I learnt a lot during my internship. The work culture at Microsoft was cool. All the employees around me were extremely talented and polite. As an intern, I was allowed to attend the Stand-Up meetings. It was something that I had never experienced. I had to inform the work that I was doing during the meeting. It really felt like I was one among them.At the end of the internship, I had completed the tasks given to me.
Between the experience gained and the people I was able to work with, this internship was more than I could have ever hoped for. Cheers to the best summer internship!
I’d end by saying this :
Combine what you learn in the classes with your passion and you’ll end up living your dream. :)
